Heathsiders run the extra mile - Golden Stag and Battersea Park relays

This week’s report includes stunning performances at 1 mile races both on the track (Golden Stag mile) and on the road at the Battersea Park relays, new club records from Seyfu Jamaal, Brogan Wallace and Sue Eedle and several other track events.

Golden Stag Mile, Finsbury Park, 22.7.22

Simon Baker sent the following report from the Golden Stag mile:

“Our friends at Barnet hosted their annual mile races at Finsbury Park on Friday evening on a cool summer evening perfect for running.  There were 13 time graded races with 19 Heathsiders taking part.  The highlight being Brogan setting a new Women's Mile Record previously held by Rosa Serafini.  Brogan's time of 4:53 was good enough to finish 2nd fastest women across the meeting.  In the Men's A race Seyfu took the race out hard only to be overtaken at the bell by two runners.  However he kicked again on the final bed to take 2nd place setting a new Senior Club Mile record with 4:16, breaking Adam Kirk Smiths record set in 2016.  “

Sue Eedle also set a new club womens V65 record for 1 mile on the track, finishing  in 7:22.29

Battersea Park 1 mile Relays

A large group of Heathsiders travelled to Battersea Park for the 1 mile relays, which made a welcome return on Monday after a three year break due to Covid.  Even the muggy conditions failed to dampen the runners’ enthusiasm.  The first Heathside team (Sion Lewis, Christopher Gracie and Andy Barnes) finished in fifth, with fastest individual times from Sion Lewis (4:46) and Christopher Gracie (4:52).  Two of Heathside’s teams finished first and second in the V50 team grouping.  Thanks are due to Martin Potter for organising the teams and for trying to come up with imaginative team names, and to the club for paying for the entries.
