Issy Watkins wins gold at South of England Championships

Issy Watkins produced our best performance over the weekend breaking the club U17W 800m record and taking the gold medal at the South of England Championships. Cian upgraded his 2021 bronze to silver in both the 100m and 200m at the Scottish Championships, and at SAL match 4 we achieved a good number of wins despite the heat and a reduced team.

Simon reported: “A large contingent of young Heathsiders struggled through train strikes and traffic to take part in the South of England Championships.  Despite the hot weather there were a host of great performances and two new club records.  Issy Watkins produced our best performance breaking the club U17W 800m record taking the gold medal.  Sam Brown wasn't quite able to repeat his National Schools title being just pipped on the line to take silver in the U15G 300m.  Milli Bridgeman-Athanasatos set a big PB in the U15G Triple Jump.  We'll done to everyone who braved the conditions.”

Simon reported: “Sadly the Clubs push for promotion came to an end at a burning hot Woodford athletics track.  The weather combined with key club members competing in the Scottish Championships plus holidays weakened the team.   This left too many events without competitors and the club unable to make up the gap on the other teams.  There were event wins for Joseph Young (SM 800m), Yann Sevestre (SM 3000m), James Hamblin (SM Shot and Hammer), Lily Woolcock (SW 800m), Shammon Sinclair (SW 3000m) and Jennifer Wing (1500mSC).”

The last league meeting is on 10th September at Perivale.
