And of course Parkruns.  There are also some late results from last week.

Brighton Marathon, 2nd April 2023

Jacob wrote: There were two outstanding marathon debuts for Matt and Kader, who along with second claimer Gordon finished in the top-15. It will be an U20 marathon club record for Kader (possibly the first LH MU20 to run a marathon).

Patrick sent in this report: Brighton Marathon ended up being my final long run before London Marathon, mainly because I couldn't defer my place to next year without paying £70.It was a freezing cold start, and I kept an easy 10 minute mile pace going for the majority of the run, with a few walking breaks in the final 5 miles. I finished in 4:36, and after a massage in the Martlets Hospice charity tent and cycle home I was feeling surprisingly fresh and sunburnt. Recovery was very quick, I was descending stairs without even wincing the next morning! The new Brighton course, which no longer includes the lonely trip to the power station, was a great improvement. Anyway, the taper starts now!

Putney and Fulham Half Marathon, Putney and Fulham, 2nd April 2023

Martin sent in this report: “Just 2 Heathsiders took part in the Putney and Fulham Half Marathon. As the Welwyn Half was cancelled late on the Friday before the race, it was a scrabble to book another race and this run fit the bill. The run was a two loop course with plenty of field, grass and mud whilst crossing both Putney Bridge and Hammersmith Bridge twice. However there was some friendly competition and a relaxed atmosphere.

Jackie was pleased to come home as 1st V60 and finished well in the top third of the field. Martin had a solid run to finish 6th overall and 1st V50.”

SEAA Road relays, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park,  2nd April 2023

This event took place on Sunday – we have full results below and a report on the women’s race from Sarah Swinhoe. The men’s A team came in a best ever 14th at this event, and the women’s A team came in 7th.

Sarah Swinhoe wrote: “Thanks to some last  minute help from Lily, Kim and Emily, as well as the other committed stalwarts, we were able to field 2 teams in the relays on Sunday. We even had a reserve, who was sure she wasn’t going to be needed, but more on that later.

It’s the first time that the event has been hosted so close to home and it was a great venue, despite the many walkers and cyclists on the course, and some West Ham fans on the way to the home match. It was a little windy too but the feedback overwhelmingly agrees that it was an interesting course. Make of that what you want.

It’s always hard to pick out the woman of the match in team events - and this really was a wholesome team event - but I would have to go with Angela Howe on this one. She had her kit (of course) but wasn’t super up for running and it looked like she was off the hook until the final leg, when Ciera’s shin was not happy during the warm up and we knew that  our reserve was needed after all. Coach Jacob pinned the number onto Ange’s vest and off she went to the start line, without even a grumble (well, not within our earshot )

The A team came a very respectable 7th place: and the B team a very respectable 28th.

I should also name check Leigh James for her help in sorting out the teams. She was awesome too.

Thank you & congratulations to these super women for showing up on the day. Katie had travelled from Leeds, Beth got an early train from Berkshire, Kim changed a lunch date and Lily had been in bed unwell all week. You all rock.”

And another late report - Sara Black sent this report in: “Last week I was asked by the charity Prost8, that's been helping my father, if I would like to take a place that needed to be filled due to someone dropping out. This charity helps men get the best treatment for prostate cancer using less invasive surgery for mid grade prostate cancer.  LLMH is an event I've not done before. It's well organised, lively and full of charity runners.  Despite lots of weaving through the crowds, I was happy with my official time of 1:31:57.  It's a shame I wasn't able to run in my own name as I'd have won my age group. I can put my ego aside knowing I've raised funds for a very worthy cause.  It's not too late to donate. “

Parkruns can be found here  – and congratulations on first places to Jordan Marshall (Ally Pally), Ciara Williams (Leavesden), Lily Woolcock (Lordship Recreation Ground) and to Louisa Pointon (Hasenheide) the day before she took place in the Berlin Half Marathon!
