The club’s track and field season started with a hastily rearranged SAL meeting at Lee Valley due to the Finsbury Park Track Repairs. The meeting saw a host of debutants and a number of our talented U17’s stepping in for their first senior meeting. There were some great performances as the club finished 4th overall. In a competitive meeting there were three wins for the men Thomas Archer (1500m) James Hamblin (Hammer) and joint 1st for Ivan Ross in the Pole Vault which he shed blood for! In the women Rachel McDonald won the 800m and Caitlin Mcilwyn took over 10s off her PB to win the 3000m. Elsewhere points were secured by Jennifer Wing and Andy Barnes in the steeplechase races with Ivan, Joel Hawes and Mark Jefford all securing points in multiple events. Noelle O’Regan also ran a great finishing straight to take 2nd in the 400m race.
Special mention to Helena Stone who as a para-athlete ran competitively for the first time.
4th place may be a little disappointing finishing place but a great achievement given the youth of the team and lack of competitors in many of the field events.
Thanks so much to everyone who made the trek to Lee Valley to help volunteer and especially Jen, Mark and Jonathan for their efforts to get the meeting on and run so smoothly.
The next SAL will be at Hemel Hempstead on Sunday 18th June.

Night of the 10,000m PBS, Parliament Hill, 20.5.23
George Gurney and Seyfu Jamaal both set new PB’s at the night of the 10,000s with Olivia Desborough running a strong race in the Race 5. Seyfu went out hard and with another runner built almost a 100m lead over the pack which was led by a pacemaker. However the pack closed the gap and went past before Seyfu dug in to claim 5th place.
