Webster smashes club record at Ealing Half Marathon

Katy Webster smashed the club record for a half marathon at Ealing in 78.12. Elsewhere the Heathside vest or trisuit was to be seen far and wide across the country and beyond including at the world’s biggest cross country race in Stockholm and the Berlin Marathon.

Katy Webster ran an amazing race at Ealing in the Half Marathon there, breaking the club record by 50 seconds, coming in 2nd woman in a time of 78.12, the full results with some other excellent performances at the race are given below.

Three Heathsiders took part in the Berlin marathon, and Henry Hamilton, who achieved a PB in 3.24.51 commented: “I couldn't have asked for better conditions on a sunny but cool day in the fastest marathon in the world as proven by a new World Record (Wilson Kipsang, 2:03:23). I achieved a new PB (3:24:51) and actually ran a negative split after a much slower than expected first half but this definitely helped me in the latter stages as the last mile turned out to be my fastest.”
The Hever Castle Triathlon, one of the last of the season,  had a scattering of Heathsiders in the various categories, and, amongst others, saw Sue Rust triumphant in this, her inaugural triathlon (the Mid Distance). From the horse’s mouth: “ I had no idea what to expect, but everything went off without a hitch and it was a blast. The transitions were a lot more simple than I had spent time worrying about, and everything went quite smoothly”. Sounds as if she’ll be back for more... Andy Barthorpe wasn’t quite so positive about his sprint results: “ I blew up on the bike and the run was awful”. Claire’s who ran the Olympic distance said: "Not sure how it was on the Saturday but on the Sunday was pretty perfect weather bar a few spots of rain.   We were informed earlier in the week the water was 14 degrees which is decidedly chillier than for other summer events but not too bad when it came down to it.  I had been told that the bike course was hilly and challenging but turns out cycling round the hills of North London were ample prep.  On the run as with the bike they send you out and straight up a hill for the cross country route (2 laps of either 4k/5k or 11 1/2k for the Gauntlet Half Iron distance) it was then that maybe I was regretting having never braved the cross country season!  Squeaked in 14 seconds under my 'would be disappointed to be over' time!   A really well organised event with some nice touches like being set off to the sound of a canon, Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn (the real ones obviously) to greet you at the finish line along with a pint of (albeit alcohol free) beer.”

Gabi took part in the Dawlish triathlon in Devon with the swim section in the sea – except that the sea bit was removed and a trail run inserted so Gabi’s aim of gaining a head start on the swim was scuppered and she ended up being disappointed with her time:” The sea swim was cancelled due to rough sea conditions, so they added in an additional 4km trail run.  Both runs included hills, mud, puddles and flights of stairs”

Philip Duggan represented Heathside on Saturday at what the organisers call the largest cross country in the world - 30km around one of Stockholm's Islands – Lidingo. Phil’s comment: “Some issues with the crowds on the single track sections of the run otherwise a generally good bit of sightseeing" – he came 477th man out of 15,884 in 2.11.30.

Two PBs were achieved at the last Friday of the month 5k in Hyde Park from Olivier Le Poulain 15.48 and Stuart Meiklejohn 17:48.

Some very good times achieved at the North West London YA Cross country on Saturday -  of particular note 2nd place for Liam Garrett in the Boys under 13 -  3,000 metres and 3rd place for James Wooldridge in the Under 17 Men's 4,7000 metres. Full results listed below

Late result from last week – Phil Bentley ran his best race for a couple of years, running 38:03 to finish 8th in the Swallowfield 10k in Reading.
