Saturday saw 30-plus Heathsiders traipsing off to Oxford to compete in the South of England Masters’ and Inter-County championships. The performance of the day belonged to 16-year-old Jem O’Flaherty who was the first Middlesex runner home in the under 17 event, and came ninth overall.

It was an eventful weekend – which included the 3rd Met League in Uxbridge and Perivale 5. We had a huge variation in races this weekend from xc , indoor track, 5ks, a one miler, a 5 miler, a 10 miler, a handful of half marathons, a 15k and a 73K and the news that Sandra Buckton is fastest parkrun lady in Germany this week!

U11 girls Hattie Munday had another fantastic run, finishing in 6th place, and that was after a double race weekend last week, where she competed in the Haringey Schools on the Friday, followed by the NWL at Trent park– amazing effort.

There was success for the Men’s team as they picked up 2nd spot thanks to great running from Richard Macauley who was first home in 8th place, backed up by Esa Valtanen (13th) and Jonathan Litchfield (2nd in his age category and 17th overall).

Saturday saw one of the early highlights of the cross country season: the London Championships at Parliament Hill. The resurgent Rebecca Piggott led the ladies team to another victory, while the men acquitted themselves well without some of their best runners.

Saturday saw a huge turnout for the much-anticipated cross-country race in Welwyn Garden City, the second in the Met league and the first of the weekend’s races. One hundred and thirty one Heathsiders ran, with fantastic performances from everyone, particularly the juniors, and senior ladies. The following is Captain Sarah Swinhoe’s report from the day.
