A relatively quiet weekend race-wise, with no XC fixtures. The main event for the club was the Stevenage Half, the penultimate event in the Club’s Rob Jackson Road Race Championships, in which Sandra Buckton increased her lead at the top of the Womens, and Robert Bowler picked up some very valuable points to bolster his 2nd position and challenge current leader Andy Barnes in the Mens.
Read MoreIt was a week of extreme and (sometimes) eclectic events, with Heathsiders preparing for the next Met League race in many ways. Sarah Swinhoe continued to amaze with her return to form by winning the second hardest marathon in Britain in style, a few Heathsiders practised their cross-country pacing at the North of the Thames cross-country race, which Heathside’s under-17 boys dominated, Andy Barthorpe tackled a two day mountain marathon Scotland, whilst the McKeown brothers went their separate ways in pursuit of pork pies and chutney (and hopefully finished with a picnic).
Read MoreIt was a quietish week in the Heathside results inbox but there were a couple of performances of note, not least Adrian's endeavours in the decathlon (if you can name all the events without scrolling to the bottom of the page, give yourself a pat on the back).
Read MoreHeathsiders were out in force elsewhere showing that road running certainly isn’t ready to slide into hibernation over the winter just yet. There were half marathon PBs galore at the Royal Parks, Peterborough and Oxford, some of the more evergreen Heathsiders took on the Ridgeway Trail run through Hertfordshire, the Yorkshire Marathon saw another pair of PBs and there was some domestic rivalry at the Peninsula Triathlon.
Read MoreIt was a bumper week for cross country this week with the ladies bringing third place home in the Southern cross-country relays – well done Rebecca, Leigh and Sarah. We also had full A and B ladies and men’s teams for the Sunday league at Cheshunt. Several eager Heathsiders doubled up with races on both Saturday and Sunday, with Leigh and Chris mixing it up with a cross country/road double.
Read MoreClaybury - a metaphor for life. Exuberant downhill start; jostling, falling, out of control. Then flat open space and limitless sky; pace, pace, settle down, stay with the colours ahead. Familiar faces and the shadow of trees, and stony ground - something dark is afoot; heartbreak up and stomach-lurching down, twist and turn where the unwary are undone.
Read MoreNow that we’re in the final countdown for the cross-country season, our men and women have been taking to the streets in huge numbers for a final burst before mud, sweat and tears take hold. So, lots of races to report, but the big one, which comrade Dan calls ‘the sexy 10k’, was the Middlesex championships at Victoria Park on Sunday, where Heathsiders excelled at every level.
Read MoreThe weather was perfect for racing on this beautiful end-of-summer weekend, cool but sunny, favouring the triathletes by raising the temperature a little. Races were varied as usual, ranging from a 5k, a 10k, a couple of half marathons, a full marathon, a couple of triathlons and an aquathlon, along with track, and the NW London Young Athletes XC League and of course some parkruns! Something for everyone.
Read MoreThe Heathside net was spread far and wide this weekend, not only geographically (with members taking part in events in Estonia, Hull, Bristol, Cornwall, Essex, Herts, and the big GNR up in Newcastle), but also in type, as Heathsiders competed in Road Running, Multi-discipline, Parkruns, and Track & Field events (with Ruth Miller ensuring the youngsters were ferried to Hayes in West London for a big meet there). While closer to home, 11 took part in the Duathlon on Hampstead Heath, braving the chilly waters of the Mens’ and Womens’ ponds!
Read MoreThe highlights this week include an impressive performance from Andy Barnes (3rd place, 57:58, PB) and a welcome comeback from Steve Woolf in the Harlow 10, an exciting update on the club championships, a dramatic finish in Kingsmeadow, not to mention a few half marathons and even an aquathlon in Lea Valley.
