A tale of two Bostons

Marathon season has kicked in – sometimes hot, sometimes cold: luck of the draw. This week our lot ran the 26.2 (42.2) in the heat of Boston, Massachusetts and the relative cool of Boston, Lincolnshire, after last week’s Paris, Rotterdam, Hannover and Brighton, and next Sunday’s little matter of London.

Marathon season and no indoor javelin

We had three Heathsiders in action in Brighton, where the field is led out by a fume-spewing Mod-themed motor cavalcade of mopeds and Mini Coopers. Additional points to the organisers for including hundredths of seconds in finishers' times but not bothering to list their running clubs.

5 star show at Manchester Marathon; PBs galore elsewhere

Since it’s Manchester, if I’d left myself more time I’d have thrown in a bunch of laboured Oasis puns but we’ll just have to Roll With It as we reflect on a magnificent effort from 5 Heathsiders who took on the 26.2 miles and enjoyed some Morning Glory, led home by distance king Tom Aldred as he finished in 5th place, with an incredible time of 2:27:08 (perhaps even more incredible that this wasn’t even a PB!).

All The World's a Stage...

Sebastian Harrison competed in a Sprint Tri and reports: "I did the East Leake Triathlon on Sunday just past. It was a sprint triathlon so 400m swim (pool), 22km cycle and 5km run. I got PBs in both the swim (6:28) and the run (17:58), which I am very pleased with.

Half marathon heaven and club records smashed

We were awash with half marathons this weekend, producing some outstanding times and reflecting the exhaustive and obviously effective marathon training in progress. Fastest Heathside man over the half marathon distance was Tom Aldred finishing in an impressive 1.08 at Reading in 18th place, and fastest Heathside lady was Kelly Thorneycroft, also at Reading, where she finished in 1.22.

Ruairi McGonagle: Heathside's teen wonder

Ruairi McGonagle this year established himself as the brightest star in the Heathside firmament. Over the past month the 13-year-old has added to his Met League and Middlesex triumphs by winning the Northwest Young Athletes cross country league, picking up 14th place in the National Cross Country championships and coming first for his county, and 24th overall, in the national Inter-Counties Cross Country Champs. He speaks to Gavin Evans about running for Heathside.
