This was a fantastic week for our road runners with over 100 members of the club racing either at the cross country Met League on Saturday or on roads on Sunday, in Holland or closer to home. The most impressive performance was Tom Aldred's 2hr25min marathon, which gained him 30th place at the Amsterdam marathon. New member Kevin Gadd came in comfortably under 3 hours, and our most prolific marathoner Ursula Wilson was sixth in her age group with a commendable 3hr15min. Closer to home, Dominic Jackson and Rick Hewitt achieved PBs at the Abingdon marathon and there were PBs aplenty at the ever popular Cabbage Patch 10.

After heavy rain during the week, the course was slippery, soft and muddy, which made it tough going on all competitors, and a wake-up call for those of us who have been enjoying smooth, flat running tracks all summer. Many thanks to the 50 or so Heathside members who took part.
Read MoreThere were two main contingents of Heathsiders racing this beautiful autumnal weekend, taking in a Chingford League fixture in Trent Park - where James Wooldridge was second in the young athletes race - and the 15km Ridgeway Run, with a super 10th place for Dan McKeown in the Coventry Half one of a scattering of other results.
Read MoreAn exciting weekend for races – with Wormwood Scrubs definitely being the place to be seen on Saturday afternoon, for the SEAA Cross Country Relay championships. Elsewhere over the weekend (that I know about) there were half marathons in the Royal Parks and Blenheim Palace, a marathon in South Africa, and various parkruns... apologies for any results that have been left out.
Read MoreThere were Heathsiders all over the place this weekend, with a massive turnout and some brilliant runs at the Middlesex 10k, a hardy group of raiders at the Berlin Marathon, a handful of hypothermic triathletes and much more!
Read MoreThis weekend saw the cross country season kick off with a decent turnout at the St Albans relays and a confident start from our women's teams who came first and fifth, with Sue and Sarah running the second and third fastest legs of the day.
Read MoreAfter the excitement of part two of our club championships on Tuesday the weekend was relatively low key as far as competitive outings by Heathsiders are concerned. The Middlesex Young Athlete road relays were the only club fixture taking place, while further afield Dan and Jayne were fell running again and Ruth pulled off a quality tri in Bala.
Read MoreThis first weekend in September was an extremely busy one for many Heathsiders, with the last Southern Athletics League meeting, local aquathlons and duathlons, and marathons in the French Alps to name a few. The big event of the weekend was clearly the final fixture for the SAL 2012, which was held in Hemel Hempstead on Saturday, where we racked up the club's biggest points total of any SAL fixture this summer, and ended up coming 8th overall in the season which means we have been promoted to Division 2 status for 2013.

If there are any more budding wildlife photographers at the club, the good news is that there appears to be a lion on the loose in Essex, so there's an opportunity not to be missed. If anyone just wants to fake a photo, Simon Brown informs me you can do a pretty good job with a common house cat and a slice of bread with a hole in the middle.
Read MoreWell, we were all baking away in that hot, hot sun this weekend, but that didn’t stop a fair number of us (32 in all) from squishing our sweaty feet into those trainers and taking to the roads, paths and tracks to race our Saturday and/or Sunday mornings away
