On an historic weekend for distance running, history makers -the ladies team, returned to the mud to slay the opposition, Rob Shulman stepped up for a 100 mile race, some bloke ran 1.59 in a marathon somewhere and some woman broke a world record in another marathon somewhere:
Read MoreThe most popular event of the fortnight for Heathside was the Middlesex 10K last Sunday, featuring 58 Heathsiders, numerous PBs, county medals and a few age category prizes. These were helped by the apparently ideal weather conditions reported by the organisers - “mild moderate wind, dry but wet ground”. First in for Heathside was Seyfu Jamaal, who finished in a swift 31:15 and an impressive 3rd in a quality field. Tom Aldred finished 12 seconds after that to finish 4th overall, followed by Andy Barnes. Martin Potter and Pete Crockford ran well to finish first in their age groups, with Pete awarded the county gold medal. Other county medals in the men’s race were awarded to Seyfu (bronze), Tom Aldred (gold, V40), Martin Potter (silver V50) and Gavin Evans (bronze V50).

Top billing this time is shared by our U20 star Seyfu Jamaal who ran a fine 14:59 PB at the Highgate Harriers Autumn Open on Hampstead Heath on Wednesday evening, and Celine Bradley, who not only won the very hilly Dingle Marathon in Ireland on Sunday 8th, but shattered the record by 12 minutes and came third overall in an astonishing time for that course of 2:53:35.

Read MoreSeyfu breezed in to first place at the Hasty Hare 5K at Battersea last Monday 5th August, making it look effortless – in a time of 15.04, Rob Shulman was first in in the Windsor towpath 48 mile ultra –looking very fresh at the finish! And Tony Killilea achieved his first gold medal in the Steeplechase at the British Masters in Birmingham. Elsewhere there were some good results at the Watford Graded open but otherwise pretty quiet this mid August weekend.
