LICC, triathlon champs, and a bluffers guide to multievents

We had a great track and field turnout at the final London Inter Club Challenge (LICC) fixture at Hendon, where there were some outstanding performances. Of particular note were Jimmy T and Rich Macaulay both coming third in high-class 100 and 800 metre fields respectively, with Rich inside two minutes again, and Charles Hardy leading home the 1500m race by some considerable distance.

Southern Athletics League #5, Colchester

The track and field season is finally over. This report focuses on our overall track and field performance throughout the summer, rather than individual results from the final SAL match (which was windy and, overall, not really a day for PBs – unless your name is Gokce Baydar, in which case you smash the women’s V35 pole vault club record with a whopping 2.20 m and the triple jump club record with a leap of 8.03 m).

Despite the heat there were outstanding performances and PBs all round. Runners, marshals and general hangers-on fairly swamped the Wrestlers pub in Highgate later for the prize-giving and results.

A Run on the Dark Side…

Two brave Heathsiders, Andrew Shreeve and Sandra Marie, ventured south of the river to take part in the 2nd Dartford Midnight Marathon. Starting at 8pm, this was an 8-lap course round The Bridge Lakes of Dartford, with a special “I Beat the Midnight Marathon” tee for those finishing before midnight, an all-night tea wagon and no cut-off time (the last finisher came in in just under 6 hours).
