There were plenty of Heathsiders out racing this Jubilee weekend, taking in events such as the latest Regents Park 10k, the Plymouth marathon, the Welsh Champs, the Hillingdon triathlon, and a rather interesting 17 laps of a cyclopark in Kent that provided Phillip Hogg with a marathon PB.
Read MoreThere’s a bit of a Scottish theme to this week’s race report, led in particular by Ken Heney and an east coast adventure that, after 32.4 miles of racing (not counting training and other, non-running racing) over three weekends, culminated in the Edinburgh marathon, where Fiona also made a strong debut as part of a pack of six Heathsiders.
Read MoreFighting spirit and low turnout were the themes of our senior teams' track & field competitions this weekend, with the former unfortunately not enough to compensate for the latter, although both teams came last only by narrow margins - the narrowest possible in the case of the SML team.
Read MoreThe main event for our club road runners this weekend was the Crouch End 10k in which 66 Heathsiders raced. At the front end it was an impressive battle with Michael Stocks racing against 2 Harriers to finish third, finishing well over a minute ahead of the rest of the runners. After that the top 20 finishers in the race were predominantly Heathsiders with many of our men achieving PBs. For the women it was also a closely fought race with Iva Raykov running an excellent race, in second place throughout. The team prizes for women and men were both awarded to Heathside, with scoring teams comprising Michael Stocks, Rob Salter and Edward Garrett for the men, and Iva, Edie Fassnidge and Miranda Yau for the women.

A trip to the continent for a Belgium-Holland cross border marathon paid off with massive PBs for Claire and Jo, and a rather large trophy for Ursula!
Read MoreThe main club events this weekend were the season’s first Southern Men’s League and Young Athletes League fixtures, although results were not available at the time of writing. A Whitstable 10k, coastal half marathon and parkruns make up the rest, while going further back Lily and other young athletes have been putting down markers on the track.
Read MoreAt least six Heathsiders toed the line at UK marathons this weekend despite absolutely miserable conditions, while some decided it was just too grim to even bother. On the continent fine weather blessed those running in Hamburg, where Mike Lee achieved a whopping PB.
Read MoreAfter a week of worrying about rain and cold temperatures conditions could hardly have been better for this year’s London Marathon and Heathside was out in full force with 35 crossing the finish line, split almost perfectly evenly between our male and female runners. We saw terrific performances from Tom Aldred, George Stewart and Matt Convery, with Katy Webster and Sarah Swinhoe leading the ladies, both the latter right on their sub 3 hour targets. With 7 of our runners breaking 3 hours, and 5 ladies finishing in under 3h30m we had an excellent day overall.

Read MoreSpring marathon madness has arrived! In the run-up to London next weekend Heathside was represented in the Brighton, Milan, Paris and Rotterdam marathons. Dan Madams ran a perfectly timed race in Rotterdam, I hear, to post the fastest time of the weekend for our lot, while Sandra was unlucky enough to land a faulty chip in Paris, but will hopefully be consoled by a great self-timed run of 3:40:57.
